Home: About

Mary Kathryn has been involved with music ever since she can remember, pursuing formal study for close to 20 years in voice, piano, acting, musical theatre, and opera.

Her education includes a Masters of Music from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX and a Bachelors of Music from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. While at UNT, Mary Kathryn was heavily involved with UNT Opera both on the stage and behind the scenes, worked with the UNT College of Music Admissions, and enjoyed teaching at Heritage Music Studio in Keller, TX.
At Samford, she was a part of the internationally renowned A Cappella choir, directed several opera scenes and plays, and performed in many opera and music theatre productions both at Samford and in the community. Her awards while at Samford include the Eva Clapp White Award for Excellence in Voice and the Northrup Scholar Award for displaying the highest standard of musical performance.

Her recent roles include Valencienne (cover) in The Merry Widow (Birmingham Music Club), The Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (SEACT), Ruth Baldwin in Later the Same Evening (UNT Opera), Ariana in Madrigals of Love and War, (UNT Opera), Young Alyse cover in Glory Denied (Opera Birmingham), Zelda 1924 in the world premiere of The Ghosts of Gatsby (Samford University, Mobile Opera, and NOA 2018 finalist), Gretel in Hansel and Gretel (Samford University and Opera Birmingham Outreach), and Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro (Samford University).

She is a NATS teacher and enjoys continuing in her knowledge of vocal teaching. While her background and focus is on classical voice and opera, she has deep roots in musical theatre and loves to help people of all ages gain confidence on the stage. She believes this starts with building a strong foundation of music theory, technique, and proper performance practice to help students succeed in any genre or venue.

She currently resides in Dothan, Alabama where she teaches privately and as an adjunct professor of voice at The Baptist College of Florida and Wallace Community College.

She continues to sing locally and throughout the Southeast.
